Free MMOs - Online Games and RPGs You Don't Have to Pay For

Discover free MMORPGs, other free online games, and PvP without the fees. Beyond World of WarCraft, EQ2, and Final Fantasy XI - free games like Runescape offer alternatives to those tired of paying mass-multiplayer-online monthly dues. While the graphics may not be up to par and the audio quality a bit sub-standard, many of the free online games still offer the same core fun dynamics and community feel as their high end counterparts. Did I mention the free part?

RuneScape

www.runescape.com

Set in a semi-fantasy backdrop, RuneScape offers a free Mass-Multiplayer-Online-Role-Playing-Game MMORPG service on countless realms where players can create a character, choose attributes, and fight their way to level supremacy. Players can practice trades, engage in Player versus Player PvP (or traditionally called, Player Killing PK), complete quests, join guilds, and participate in many other activities one would expect from an MMORPG. RuneScape's website also provides customer service, lore, and a fee based subscription for a very low price granting players some extra perks, like owning a house. For many, RuneScape will be the game to top in the free MMO category.

Nexus - Kingdom of the Winds

www.nexustk.com

For those looking for a more Anime type style and interface, Nexus offers players free access to their MMORPG up to level 49, created and hosted by Kru Interactive. While their website lacks information and lore, gamers will find Nexus addicting none-the-less with the paths of Warriors, Rogues, Mages, and Poets to choose from.

Dark Ages

www.darkages.com

Kru Interactive also offers another completely free MMORPG, Dark Ages, featuring similar hand drawn Anime-like graphics as Nexus. Players can choose between Warrior, Wizard, Priest, Rogue, and Monk class types. The game also features a world with two robust continents, Temuair and Medenia. Like the other free MMOs, players who play free will not be able to access some of the other game features.

Illutia

www.illutia.com

Another Anime-style MMORPG, Illutia, also offers completely free game-play and includes plenty of rules, background, and information about the game on their website. The creators of Illutia appear to be keener on minor privileges and giving information to parents. Gamers that like Illutia can also check out the newer project by Crazed Monkeys, Wish Realm.

SilkRoad Online

www.silkroadonline.net

Players looking for a more enhanced, detailed, and professionally done MMORPG need only to create an account and play SilkRoad Online. Gamers will be able to quest, battle, and gain skills in a vibrant and unique online fantasy world. This game, more than the others, comes closer to Guild Wars and surpasses RuneScape in the interface department.

Knight Online World

www.knightonlineworld.com

In the same category of high graphic and interface quality as SilkRoad, Knight Online World boasts over 10 million players and focuses on in-depth PvP combat. Players gain access to the game for free, but for more advanced features they can also pay a small premium. Unlike SilkRoad and some of the Anime-style games above, Knight Online World delves into medieval fantasy and more Western themes, but hosts servers to gamers all over the world.
