Who Plays Wii? Nintendo Wii Sucks - Console Game History Redux
78
The Nintendo Wii game system right now might be seen as the "best" next generation console, beating PS3 vs Wii units sold worldwide by 18+ million and Xbox 360 vs Wii by 12.5+ million units as of November 4, 2008, but that does not mean it's the twist in gaming development the world's been waiting for. I'm not arguing that Sony or Microsoft should be crowned in the next gen round either, far from it, but Nintendo really pulled off a tricky stunt that everyone fell (and continues to fall) wrist over arm for.
Slam 1 - Wii Hardware Specs
Of course, Nintendo plans to proceed "undercutting" next gen competition by not allowing gamers to compare hardware specs. We do know that the Wii follows the same basic architecture as Nintendo's GameCube with about 1.5 to 2x more processing power - that's about 1 Ghz at the most for processing, maybe 250 Mhz for graphics, and 512 MB flash memory. I know I'm not listing all the details, but this just provides a rough comparison. The PS3 comes with a 3.2 Ghz processor and 550 Mhz GPU. Xbox 360 contains 3 cores running at 3.2 Ghz and 500 Mhz GPU. I don't even need to provide the additional cross comparison differences, the Wii might as well be a previous generation console.
Wii also doesn't come equipped with other features of the two systems:
Hardrives - provide faster load times, space to download content, and eliminate the need for memory cards.
DVD Playback - I mean, last gen DVD playback bit the big one, but if the system uses DVD discs for its games, Nintendo might as well allow it to play DVDs as well. And even CDs for that matter!
HD Support & 1080p Resolution - I know not everyone made the HD television switch yet, including myself, but it's coming and Nintendo should be prepared. Why waste the gaming potential of this gen's systems? Of course... unless Wii possesses limited potential in the first place.
Blu-Ray - I know, I know, a Sony exclusive. Well, not anymore! Blu-Ray won the force people to switch from DVD war and its one major hardware advantage the PS3 garners over the Wii and the Xbox 360.
Yes, at least the Wii comes equipped with Wi-Fi. But few games really utilize it, few people can handle the agony of interacting with Nintendo's online interface, and Nintendo still hides in the dark about all the promised online features of the system. Like "instant on" - what really uses that? And to what end?
The Wii also offers the most user-friendly development kit... and I wonder why?
Lets face it, the Wii already belongs in a museum. We don't need to follow Cartman into the future and fight talking sea otters to realize that.
But wait! What about Wii's unique controller, the Wiimote?
Slam 2 - Innovational Retrograde
Sure, the Wiimote uses a sensor to allow movement detection and different ways to interact with the game. Well, remember Duck Hunt? Super Scope 6? I could shoot things on those devices too and with my NES and SNES no less. But now we can bowl, and box, and play tennis in the comforts of our living rooms. Or we could just bowl, and box, and play tennis out-doors, requiring real physical activity... playing the real game. And guess what, playing sports the way humans intended actually proves to be more fun, more interactive, and more challenging. Will everyone mindlessly join together to celebrate Nintendo downgrading our old pastimes?
Genuine innovation requires more than mediocre replacements for sports and some kiddy games where the family can fling their arms around and hope they don't fling their Wiimotes into the face of a loved one.
Nintendo also ignored the passing of time and Sony and Microsoft's adaptability. Consoles designed to be upgraded, to evolve. PS3 already somewhat utilizes movement in its controller and soon will be unleashing its own brand of true motion sensor features. We're talking about Sony, an electronics powerhouse who already worked on numerous prototypes for gaming, including movement sensor arrays that could coordinate physical movements with fighting games - without a remote or controller. Microsoft, although the controller might involuntarily explode in your hand, can easily do the same. One day, the Wii's "innovation" will be mimicked by the other two systems, leaving it with little but its exclusives and platform games on a dwarfed machine.
Slam 3 - Cool Wii Games?
The Wii hosts all best sellers from the traditional Nintendo library - Metroid, Mario, Smash Brothers, Zelda, and Mario Kart - but these same games might as well be close sequels to their GameCube predecessors. Again, very small upgrades, some not even needing to use the Wiimote at all. Super Smash Bros. Brawl actually works best with the GameCube controller and Mario Kart's wheel should be considered a joke.
The rest of the Nintendo catalogue offers a plethora of disappointing third party titles that ineffectively use the Wiimote, if at all, and cross platformer titles that the system can hardly do justice to. Take for example the stripped down Wii version of Rock Band, similar to the PS2 release (ah, last gen). No world tour, no new downloadable content, less character customization, no fan building. Every new addition Harmonix added on to Rock Band to make it progress beyond the shell of Guitar Hero will be eliminated from the Wii version.
As for the backwards compatibility... Nintendo might as well of released its new platformers on the GameCube to begin with. And concerning all the downloadable retro games, a nice touch... but aren't we suppose to be moving forward? Progressing? Sounds like Nintendo thinks the best way to innovate would be to take a step back... way back.
The Wii Debunked
Nintendo Wii sucks and it will an interesting mark on console game history. I would not go so far as to call the Wii a novelty and I am glad Nintendo finally found a way to jump into the market after releasing the N64 too late and not switching to discs, doing the same for the GameCube and not offering enough of a powerhouse along with ignoring the importance of third party companies. However, this time I think Nintendo focused too much on the short term, and while the differences of the three systems may not seem so great right now, and the Wiimote keeps casual gamers entertained, in the near future Sony's and Microsoft's games will start to push the limit of their systems. With more effort from gaming companies, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 could possibly appear to be several generations ahead of the Wii and that sounds like a huge leap in the wrong innovational direction to me.

Wii is the best
I am a non console gamer meaning that i play mostly pc games, but i do own a wii, i had a ps1 and a psp and i played alot of games on ps3, and your full of crap a real gamer enojys a game for it's gameplay and inovation not just for graphics, the wii has decent graphics and some titles look great with nice bloom and to tell you the truth i really enojy playing older games morrowind,CoD 1,Rome total war, age of empired etc.. And back to the wii the wii is a great fun console and i find it more intresting than a Xbox or PS3 with HD support.
Anybody wanna hear a phenomenal joke?..... Nintendo Wii! Hahahahahahahahaha XBOX&PS3 FTW!
Fuck all of u,
the wii isnt meant for graphics, its meant for fun.
it is 10 times better than playstation move, and it is meant for families
-.- "Graphics don't have to visual", erm I think they do

graphics (grfks)
The representation of data in a way that includes images in addition to or instead of text. Computer-aided design, typesetting, and video games, for example, involve the use of graphics.
Graphics don't have to be visual. Go to youtube, search for Rundas theme from Metroid Prime: Corruption and be quiet. The Wii is actually kinda cheap, at least where I live.
?
The biggest problem with the Nintendo Wii is it's price. You can get a far greater peice of kit for the same money.
Wii is a great way for Nintendo to make money on re-sales of olf crap software. Sales on crap software as their customers are so inexperienced with computer games that they would not know a good one from a bad.
Anyone that thinks the Wii is great only owns a Wii. I have a Wii and an Xbox 360. I'm not even sure if my Wii still works as it hasn't been used for ages.
Graphics are a completely moot point. If a game has great graphics but the gameplay sucks, the game sucks. If a game has bad graphics but great gameplay, its a great game. Besides, we weren't complaining about the graphics last gen, and the Wii has better graphics than that anyhow. It only has "bad" graphics if you compare it to its competition.
To each their own, but for me it's all about rock solid gameplay.
The man here is just right on the money, the nintendo fanboys will definitely be crying. Here is the bottom line:
1. Believe it or not, graphics are a big deal. There is a reason Microsoft and Sony pump money into graphic technologies. Get over it. Graphics can break a game unless the gameplay is just so good that the graphic quality can be ignored. However great graphics can make a game THAT more enjoyable on top of awesome gameplay. It's a love it or hate it thing: Graphics do matter and nintendo has failed miserably this generation in the graphics department.
2. The sorry excuse for its Wi-Fi and multiplayer capabilities is really hurting it. This aspect of console gaming is crucial and Nintendo has found a way to screw it up big time. When you have wildly popular games like Call of Duty, Street Fighter, Gears of War, Killzone, and Borderlands just to name a few. When your online MP aspect is trash you lose out on connectivity to other gamers and longevity of your system.
3. Wii users you can sit here and deny it but your game library is COMPLETE trash outside the first-party games, and those formulas have been beaten to death. However, playing a mario game never really gets old I admit.
4. PS3 and Xbox have more or less bulldogged their way into the motion sensor market, what is now the next step for Wii when the two other consoles have superior graphics, superior online capabilities, and now have caught on to your gimmick.
The future is pretty grim for nintendo, however I do believe they will always dominate the hand-held market.
Most people are telling this guy to learn his facts. And they are right!
Lack of hardware? Nintendo is great at creating games with huge worlds, beautiful looks, great engines, and all running on less Ghz than other games. Windows isn't better than Macintosh because it requires more specs, that makes it suck!
He forgets to mention that other consoles have a library consisting 99% of shovelware and suck-ass games. Xbox and PS3 have just as many, if not more, failed 3rd party titles. In fact, when it comes to 3rd party, Nintendo does best in this by licensing makers like RARE, Retro Studios, and Sega.
Sports games? We can say the same shit about your shitty PS3 and Madden NFL. Go out and play the game. At least Wii has a get-up-and-move gimmick, which actually works with my families and families across the world.
No world tour for Wii? BOO FUCKING HOO. There is no Zelda for Xbox or PS3, and you don't see me complaining. Let consoles have their games.
It's more about the games, and this blogger obviously cannot get that through his head. more Ghz and More RAM doesn't mean shit if the only games taking advantage of it are total crap. HDTV doesn't mean anything. Are you really going to pay 1,000s of dollars for your graphics to look only a little nicer? I saw a PS3 on a small tv. It looked like shit because there were too many pixels trying to fit.
Hard Disk Drives replacing Memory cards? (Bull shit.) Well, I guess once my hard drive crashes and burns, or gets reformatted for some reason, I LOSE ALL MY PROGRESS ON EVERY GAME. And now I have to re-install my game if I'm on a PS3. I like Memory cards because now I don't have to take an ENTIRE SYSTEM to a friend's house to show him my progress or my files on my games. Sure, I could take my HDD, but I would have to open up not 1, but 2 consoles if I didn't want to take the entire thing. With Wii, there is still value in owning your own because of your Mii's, virtual console purchases, and local data. That's right, even though there are memory cards, you can still store a little personal data like files and custom levels. Both is better than just one right?
All Consoles have their strong points and their weak. Let them be different, and let the games decide who is the best in gaming.
Praise Shigeru Miyamoto, and make of Legend of Zelda.
I sold my Xbox 360 to buy a Wii for me and my Ex-Gf to play. I know what your saying, bad idea. She played it for 3 minutes and hates the shit out of it now. RResold the wii and got another Xbox 360 and she was pleased with that.
-The graphics suck.
-The games are horide.
-Internet never works for long.
Doesnt anyone else think the Dreamcast did a much beter job? Wii is just a bad joke that ideots pay for and later regret buying.
Okay. The way I see it, the Wii works for some people. These people don't care about graphics, which is something the vast majority of gamers do care about. They don't care that the majority of games that are worth playing come from a stable of characters long part of the company's history, which leads, honestly, to a lack of variety. They also aren't concerned with an online and multi-player experience that offers lots of content, plenty of options, and an entire world's worth of players to challenge.
They are content with the system that costs the least, and allows for family-oriented entertainment at the expense of everything else. The Wii is most affordable, and there's a lot of kids out there who want a system, so the Wii is a natural choice for cash-strapped parents. As for the rest of the demographic, it is my opinion they simply don't know any better. The 360 and PS3 also offer great family and party game options, a library of add-ons and extras, superior online and multiplayer content, and yes, vastly superior graphics. If you own an HD television and surround system, as many people these days do, you owe it to yourself to pick a system that makes use of these features. Nintendo's day has passed, and that's sad to say as I grew up with them throughout the years. It seems however that they're still making the games I grew up with, not the ones I grew into, like most other gamers out there.
If you love your Wii, that's cool. The other 90% of us will be having fun over here. Join us whenever you're ready... or don't. Your call.
i play xbox360 and think the wii sucks. Also people saying xbox is ripping off the wii movment system they are not with wii u have tomove the controller but with the new xbox360 kinect you dont need to move the controller u move and then ur carecter moves
To the poster of this page. Learn your facts before you rant on about something that is just as amazing as the PS3 and the Xbox 360. You sound as angry as a man who had just traded a fifty dollars for a quarter. Suck it up and get over it. I bet you had some sort of "incident" with Nintendo, and live to bring their sales to the grave. Don't go posting opinions and calling them true. Don't be a five year old. Oh, wait, if you're a five year old, you must love the Wii. *Sarcasm intended* Good day. I hope you can afford surgery, because you sir, just got BURNED TO THE THIRD-DEGREE.
Wii has a stupid name. This console is for aging hipsters and five year olds. It is also for nerds who have never got any.
wii sucks haha i have a ps3
the nintendo wii sucks badly it doesnt deserves nothing and it should be recalled
I think this guy needs to start understanding the difference between FACTS and OPINIONS...
Arguing over which console is best and which console sucks is a completely pointless argument at best.
If the Wii sucks in any way at all it is simply that it sucks for you, making such rash statements just makes you look and sound like an narrow minded idiot and someone who always thinks his point of view is the right one.
I love the Wii, and whilst it clearly has less powerful CPU's and GPU's than its market competitors, does not mean it is not a great console.
For me, and I stress 'for me', The XBOX360 is a no go, 90% if not more of the games I want to play on it come out for the PC and are usually better for it. Modifiable, better graphics and greater control so I would never bother wasting my money on a console that 'I think' is nothing more than a cut down and easy to operate PC. I can upgrade my PC time and time again, the XBOX I cannot.
As for the PS3, and no doubt the PS4 when released, I will admit there are some games which are PS exclusive which I would like to play. Gran Turismo for example. But at the same time I am not prepared to shell out the funds to warrant such a purchase to simply be able to play one or two exclusive titles now and again, I can go around to a friends house and play those from time to time when I want to.
When it comes to the Wii you hav great value for money. The Wii offers many more titles not available anywhere else and more styles of game play too.
Your statements in regard to sports games sucking because you might as well play them outside and for real is laughable. Wii sports games are not trying to replace the real thing, they are a fun option that can be picked up and played any time of the day or night, whatever the weather may be like outside and without having to travel to a sports centre or gym to do so.
The Wii offers some great arcade action that can be picked up and played over and over, most titles available on the competition you rarely want to keep playing over and over, unless it offers an online multiplayer option and you are into that kind of thing, not everyone is.
You are a poor critic and have a lousy sense of reviewing things, you are clearly a narrow minded fanboy of either XBOX or PS and your blinkered view point is not worth squat - QED.
For the people, including me, that want Nintendo to "step up their game," they have no need to. The Wii is far more successful selling-wise than the PS3 or 360, so why would Nintendo change their attitude?
The problem for me isn't the graphics or the secondary capabilities (although both are important), but just the games themselves. The 1st party Wii titles (Zelda, Metroid, Mario etc.) are absolutely fantastic - there's little doubt there. Developers of 3rd party games, however, are reluctant to produce anything on the system because of its market. Just like how family/party games are utterly nonexistent on the 360 and PS3.
Who plays the wii? Obviously more people than those who play the xbox and playstation, looking at the sales. Everyone says that the wii is for kids but isn't good for older gamers. I don't think that. Rather, the wii is good for casual gamers but not for hardcore gamers. You guys hate it because you guys are hardcore gamers, so you don't appreciate the easy and calm games. And with the smaller memory and weaker processor, the wii isn't really designed for detailed and intricate games. You say the games are childish, but that's because they are easy and rated E, which won't appeal to you but is loved by casual gamers. It's kind of like why a lot of people like you don't like the xbox 360's Kinect, because it's made for everyone else. And of course the motion controls are not as good as people hoped, it's the first controller you can swing and aim without the technology used by arcade machines. Sure it might be like a novelty, but it's still innovative.
Nintendo DS it prints Money! http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/23/a-lucrative-new-
:p
All these game companies always have been stuck in a duality conscience but it's just becoming more noticeable as more innovations get made and people get in tune.
We truly do live in a new era of awareness and if we all stand up to these Box Mart companies we will make games fun without being mindless.
TP is very mindless and I enjoy Wind Breaker......errr Wind Waker far better and enjoy the music as well and the New Game+ after the ending.
It's not nearly as good as Chrono Trigger's New Game + but Wind Waker allows you to replay in a sort of new way.
It's a lot more relaxing then TP at certain parts.
Reply to Thegecko: Most of Wii games are SPORTS games and look horrible and try to stop you from playing the real sports.
They don't want people to think anymore in a fun way..............having fun does not have to mean to be mindless.
The only difference with Nintendo's is they make the graphics all cartoony and add the words "WII" to it and BAM it sells!!!!
Without getting into anything spiritual I'll just say this:
The problem with Nintendough's mindset
is that they cling to the past worried if they evolve into the "modern world"
that they have to give up their old identity when in reality it's their egos telling them filthy lies to keep stuck in a rut so they do things minimally.
That's why they use their past slogans while more "mature" people noticed the games getting crappier:
They are catching on to Nintendo's mindset without even knowing what it is.
To Nintendo and the other companies it's become an "US versus THEM situation" where they fling crap at each other and everyone is worried about their identies being stolen.
They know the new baby boomers won't know any difference and cannot feel the nostaliga so all the power to them!
I know as I struggle with that kind of mindset a lot and can really tax you if you hold grudges.
nintendo used to be a hit-all company and system. remember the snes - best rpg's and all around games EVER. even with the n64/gamecube they entertained well enough.
it seems they have made their aim to focus entirely on their franchise games and the youth/family market (have you ever played a modern nintendo rpg for example- it is like terrible grapgics and story for an 8 year old land - even ones based from darker deeper things like valkyrie profile)
Microsoft seriously got wise (since their catastrophe that was the xbox). They seem to be trying to pump out lots of everything - which is what makes the system - its game lineup.
Sony got dumb. Real dumb. The PS2 was a cow in which they milked most perfectly. Now they
-Come on to the scene dead last (years after people choose 360 or god forbid wii)
- Come on the scene with a console at an incredibly high price.
-No killer titles to accompany the console launch (nintendo for example was very smart in zelda - and then delaying the gc version of it too!)
- And they let a numbe rof their exclusives go over to microsoft (the system that has many owners due to years of time and being affordable).
-AND they no longer have the ps2 mindset of pump every category to the max for a big game list for your console so they are basically as barren and untreaded as your grannies love hole.
I agree totally that the Wii Sucks...
It is totally capable of playing DVD's, however Nintendo refuse to allow this ability to be used. They won't provided DVD playing software themselves, and intentionally try to break Wii's that have third party DVD playing software on them, then after intentionally breaking them, refuse to fix them saying the warenty is void.
will u just leave wii gamers alone,im not a wii fan,i own a ps3 but still if u dont like it dont be rude,i dont like wii,but i dont hate it
Here r the people who play wii.

the ''WII'' dosent suck and the graphics dont either its just the GAMES that suck and i have a wii i should know if they made better games it would have more popularity and the only games i think are good is brawl guitar hero monster hunter 3 tri and new super mario bros and mario galaxy so if u think the wii sucks u suck but if u think the games suck im ok with that so shut the fuck up cock suckers
The Wii is the best video game console. The is used by the old and yound.(wich makes it a great family gaming console.
While sitting down on your lazy butt and playing your ps3 and 360. I am dancing and looking wonderful.(A LOT OF ps3 & 360 PLAYERS GAIN WEIGHT WHILE PLAYING THEIR VIDEO GAMES. NOT THE SAME WITH THE WII. THE graphics may not be the best but the graphics are original, smooth, and futuristic.AND HELLO IF you watch tv you will now that netflix works with the wii. WII IS NUMBER 1 WII IS THE BEST> DONT SIT DOWN ON YOUR LAZY BUTT, GET A WII. AND 360 and ps3 only have violent games. NOT A LOT TO CHOOSE FROM
the Wii fucking sucks!! theres no HD theres no hard drive and all the games suck balls go get yourself a playstation or xbox. stop having to deal with all the crapy games and grachics!!!
WII SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WOULD YOU PLAY SOMETHING THAT YOU EXERCISE ON OR STAND ON A CHAIR TO PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Wii sucks so much. Nintendo claims to have made "the most innovative console with the best technology". What do you use that technology for? Playing fake sports and waving around a remote just to watch cartoon food get cooked? That's not gaming to me.
I have a wii,and honestly, its pretty lame. The only games I play on it are Tatsonoko vs Capcom and Brawl
And Donapatch, shut up,you can't even spell correctly.
Who says having the most revolutionary games or the best video card makes the best console? When I'm looking for a great system or game, what I care most about is the game play, and the wii has fantastic game play. And the fact that they're revitalizing the old only makes it all the better! As to past motion sensor stuff, sure they had it, but not the fine-tuned sensorship of the wii remote. Further, I could care less if my game console can play CD and blue ray. That's what DVD players and such are for.
THIS WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME. The wii doesn't suck.
You suck. you suck like shit
hi there you are wrong nintendo is the best console for useing flash memory storage why wont sony put a big huge ssd flash drive in the sony ps3 xbox 360 will let you play games useing usb flash drives xbox says up to 32 gb with 2 16 gb usb flash drives but testers say you can use any size like corsair 128 usb flash drives or kingstong 256 gb usb flash drives
Look its 2010. Now take a look at the Wii...its just sad. Sure the concept looked cool years ago but Nintendo fucked it up(Right in the disk drive). I have all 3 consoles n i havent played the wii since a little after brawl. Wii sucks.
I am going to have to agree with a large majority of what is stated in this article. The Wii is vastly undermanned compared to either of the other next gen consoles (Xbox 360 or PS3). Firstly I am not a fanboy of any of the consoles. I own an Xbox 360 although I have to admit that in most areas the PS3 is better compared to the Xbox 360 (with the exception of online). Either way though the Wii doesn't seem to come close to either console as far as I can see.
Obviously the Wii has much worse graphics now I know graphics aren't everything and yes tons of people still don't even have HD tvs, having said that though even without an HD tv the Xbox 360 and PS3 look so much better and superior. Again you can argue graphics aren't everything and I agree with that to a certain point but, they sure as hell are nice. Not to mention televisions are becoming more and more advanced soooo the video game industry will naturally move that direction with certain televisions being developed in the neighborhood of over 2000p compared to a max of 1080p atm. Wii fanboys will argue its not graphics its gameplay. Again I'd have to largely agree with them gameplay is a key element heres the problem the Wii has no gameplay! Or games for that matter. Other than Super Smash Bros and the occasional link game what does the Wii have. Thats the reason I found this site. I was looking on a game website and happened to take a look at the Wii section I saw the hottest games listed and bestsellers and was completely shocked at just how weak the lineup was. That provoked me to Google the Wii's game library which in turn brought me here.
On this site Game Crazy a prominent game site the Hottest games for the 360 were : Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands and Dragon Age origins. The Most wanted Playstation 3 releases were: Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed II, God of War collection, Uncharted 2 Among Thieves. Now for the Wii's bestsellers: Super Mario Bros Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, Wii Fit plus, and Mario Super Sluggers. Not to mention other games prominently displayed such as (these were in the newest release section) My Fitness coach 2: Workout and Nutrition, Yoga Storybook workshop Karaoke Revolution and Cook Wars. Wow... I scanned the site up and down for some sort of riveting game and honestly I found nothing. Do any of those games sound like something you would remotely want to play? Ok Super Mario Bros Wii could be fun I mean I could play it for an hr or so and overall its probably not a terrible game but I honestly dont think I could play any of the others for more than 5 minutes without getting totally aggravated. Oh and God forbid could a Wii game not have the word Wii somewhere in the title?
Ok so the Wii may have hit upon a clever idea in the motion sensing but, I'm not really a fan it seems to make more sense to actually play tennis or bowl than to do a virtual version of it. Plus its true Microsoft and Sony will only improve on Nintendo's idea.
Then theres the whole multimedia aspect of it which in all honestly this is where the PS3 absolutely runs away with things. Blu-Ray being the main advantage of course. The Wii can't even play normal dvds and has pretty much no online advantages something Nintendo has really failed to utilize. Overall its hard to seriously even put the Wii up there with the other two. Sure its promoted as mainly a fun gaming system but its hardly a gaming system thats the real problem here. Anyway I could say more but, I'm going to go Play MW2...the number 1 selling piece of entertainment in any industry ever a game the Wii fails to even have.
Wii is a gaming console? I could of sworn it was just sorry excuse for a source of erercise. Wii had Brawl and thats about it.
The Wii remote isn't even that revolutionary. Theres been games in the arcades for the last decade that require motion sensing.
Graphics aren't too important.. but Nitendo looks like they didn't even try to take a step forward. Thier library is aimed at little kids. The internet aspect isn't even worth going into.
I love Nitendo, but the Wii is nothing to PS3/360.. and do I dare say the PC?
I have a Wii and an Xbox 360, in my opinion xbox 360 is way fucking better, and my friends got a PS3, and I have to admit, that console is also fucking ownage, and I might try to get PS3 to :D.
wii sucks would never buy one, its for little kids
i have friends who own ps3 and 360s but i have a wii, the wii has some good games pples like call of duty modern warfare and super smash bros brawl, dude what is the point of shooting game when you just have a ps3 pressing the buttons to fire while u could get the same game that is more realistic?
Blabla, dumb fanboys jacking off about their consoles.
@spiroth10 I completely agree with everything you have said.
I've been gaming since the early 80's and gaming for the Wii is very exciting for me. Gaming has just become so generic since that time and the Wii is a breath of fresh air.
But since when haven't other companies emulated things Nintendo put in their consoles and introduced to the masses:
*D Pad controls
*light gun
*shoulder buttons
*rumble pak
*analog stick
*hand held gaming
*touch screen
*dual screen
*motion sensing controls (powerglove, wiimote)
*game saves
Not to mention the huge number of innovations in software.
Wii sucks, PS3 PWNS ALL. Simple as that. I game with good ol' joysticks and buttons, not by flinging some crazy stick around in the air. XD I sincerely hope that Sony and Microsoft don't make a move on their consoles with these "innovations". Very in-depth, well written hub.
wii is better it gives you more options your not just sitting down pressing buttons your doing the motions and wii also have good games to like(the bigs smackdown vs. raw transformers and much more for everyone) you dont think xbox 360 and ps3 have crap games then your wrong
Wii games suck!!!!! All those games are for babies
How in my life i'm ganna play iCarly, hanna montana, or spongebob games???? That's for babies
each to their own. but obviously your opinion is in the minority.
wow can you say 360 fanboy look the wii is an upgrade from the gamecube yes sony and microsoft have more powerful hardware but if you look back at the 16bit era all the systems with the so called better hardware got beat down by the powerhouse call the snes and remember the ps1 was orignally designed by nintendo nintendo has proven that the best graphics and expensive hardware doesn't make the best games it is gameplay and fun factor that determines what people will buy hell the 360 is really no better than the old xbox and the ps3 is still competing with the ps2 how sad is that i like my ps3 yes sony and microsoft are coming out with there own motion control systems but they have to piggy back off of nintendo hell microsoft hired a certain someone because he showed that the wiimote can be used for a whole lot of applications and they wanted to know how nintendo did it think about it nintendo had the forsight to know that motion control gives you better gameplay hell sony's new controllers use the same axis movement detection as the nunchuck so while you try to bash the wii it is still going to kick the 360's butt stop hatin and admit that it is a quality system for a wide range of people
xbox360 and ps3 are next gen, wii is last gen. straight up the wii simply sucks retarded games like hannah montanna and baby bash graphics that look like the inside of a goats butt and horrid online play
If you are looking for innovation, try the Nintendo DS.
It is surprising the quantity and quality of DS games. They are innovative, creative and exciting.
DS console, may not be as POWERFUL as any of the home consoles, but its far way fun that any of those including the Wii(except for the multiplayers).
The Wii is great, when talking of multiplayer games.
I think that what many players really want, is great gameplay, great story, emotions, and a touch of fantasy on their games, instead of realism and repetitive and frustrating levels or missions.
You seem to hate the Wii so much, just because you don´t understand, why people just want to have fun for fun, regardless of the console "POWER", or the new technologies it has, or anythig you said before;
THEGECKO, I WANT YOU TO KNOW, WE DO NOT CARE ABOUT THAT
I am already tired of FPS, Racing, or Sports videogames. I want true innovation.
oh and if you are about to insult microsoft and sony adding motion sensors: microsoft made their own versions of miis and last time i checked they were a lot better than the miis.
I find it funny that you wiitards always rant about the part when people insult the graphics, and only that. Did you forget that he also talked about the controls and games on it? Also he forgot to mention this, but nintendo has a poor excuse for online play. They finally added voice chat, but seriously, a speaker?! and for animal crossing?! And i also wish nintendo would make a new game series, because the other two consoles keeep adding new games, not the same old ones. yes i know that they are classic games, but their plots are constantly reused and they get boring once you beat them. and who cares what the sales are? these are opinions, and the fact that the wii sells the most does not mean it's "better", because that is simply an opinion. and i'm pretty sure most of those sales are towards kids. but im not saying the wii sucks, it's a great family console and good for parties, but that i prefer the other two. when i bought my wii after a few months it got so boring i traded it in for a 360, and i have never regretted that decision.
misthaven, its not leaching, its rip-off artist, and if you flied the airplane in Idindiana Jones and the staff of kings,or whipped/punched/threw bad guy in fish thank, you friek'n are hanging by at thread. Just by a SID card of whatever its called for faster respond+Brawl is rated 10 of 1-10. :-P and wii sports resort is A++ senor and has fencing, water skiing, others, and a free $20 wii motion plus. People play to aviod learning. so they play right then when they WANT to. Plus class=more than $999 to master. with wii, in seconds, you can play, and you look like a master. new meaning to VR. Plus wii fitness helps people loose wait. A guy lost 50+ pounds! and what about wii channels, HHHMMMM? I bet you LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE them. As for graphics no one needs them. Donkey Kong is a great classic. and pacman-bad graphics-yet people like it. So what? Xbox 360 has Halo 3. Halo combat involved is better if with worse graphics. PS3 is the same as PS2 with bluray + memory. Wii is the best
Ok, seriosly? I read the 1st paragraph, then I stopped reading. nothing you or anyone says will stop us from playing the Wii.
I think Nintendo has took a giant step up from the gamecube. the gamecube was just like the past 3 systems, and personally, I think most of the major games on it were a bit childish, with all the bright colors and cel shading.
(like Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda wind waker)
the gamecube was the least selling system in nintendo history. but look at the Wii, games for all ages! sequils of many great games (SSB, Mario Kart, Super mario 64) and brand new awsome games (Boom Blox, De Blob) !!
As for graphics, WHO CARES??? it only makes the game a little more real. I have a feeling the PS3 mabey focusing more on graphics than on gameplay. think about it this way:
Gameplay and graphics are like Ice cream and sprinkles.
if a game is very good, but have bad graphics (Super mario brothers on NES) than you have a bowl of plain ol' ice cream Good, right? but if a different game has realistic graphics but a terrible plot or bad gameplay, it's just a bowl of sprinkles. ick. but if a game has good graphics AND good gameplay it has a bowl of ice cream with sprinkles. yum!!
Don't get me wrong, some people may LOVE a bowl of sprinkles. they only want a game that looks real.
Thats not me. in fact I don't like sprinkes in any way.
I love the NES, SNES, N64(my fav), gamecube and Wii!!! ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!
the PS3 is WAAAAY to expencive. They don't see this economy right now!!!! $700?????? NOO!!!!!!!!!
Xbox is okay, they lowerd to $200 alongwith the Wii.
in conclusion, PS3 is not very good (but not a waist) the
360 is better, the Wii beats all.
and let me answer you're question, thegecko.
who plays Wii?
everyone.
It's funny that you're trying to knock the Wii, when it's sold the most out of all three systems, and has both Sony and Microsoft trying to leech off of its Motion Control gameplay.
Out of all three companies, Nintendo continues to innovate. Yeah it doesn't have the graphics, but who cares? That's the problem with most Western gamers, and the reason why we don't get all the best games.
Thanks, but I'll stick with my Wii.
I think the Wii is good for kids but there isnt really anything special about it for older players. I think most players will stay with the PS3 or Xbox360
i have to say, away from the previous debate, that I have a Wii and everybody i know has either a PS3 or Xbox 360 so I've played them both a lot. The 360 and PS3 are pretty much the same as the previous gen consoles with better graphics and media players (I am jealous of the 360 media centre mind you but not so much the PS3's media capabilities, who really watches Blu-Ray anyway?).
For my money the Wii is the better option of all 3 by a long way with the 360 second because of the media streaming capabilities, games wise the Wii has no competition in terms of innovation and being fun. Not just for the people playing it, have you ever watched somebody play Wii? it's almost as much fun as playing it yourself. I got a Wii fit yesterday and it is the most fun I have ever had playing a console and I sweated buckets too. It's more fun than playing Mario kart multiplayer, Goldeneye deathmatches or Fifa until 4am in an all night pot smoking session and it doesn't feel like 'just a way to kill time' like most consoles have and continue to do. The retro games in the Wii shop are also a ton of fun, maybe more-so for me because i love to dig out my master system from time to time and play Wonderboy or any other such game that were just fun to play!
I do have gripes with the Wii though, for one the games do look inferior to the other next gen consoles and on a lot of games the Wii remote thingy can be more of a hinderence than an innovation, it's only really Nintendo and maybe a couple of other third party developers that really know how to make games for it because the development isn't as standard as with the 360 or PS3, so i've been struggling to find games that meke the most of the new control system. As there's the Wii classic controller available developers could easily make some straight forward games using that instead of feeling the need to have you flick your wrist to shoot in Fifa or some other gimmick, gimmick btw is what 80-90% of the Wii games boil down too and I say that from experience.
But if for nothing else you have to praise Nintendo for breaking the status quo of developing games that are the same as the previous gen consoles but with better graphics and textures and more characters on screen, not to mention the battle Sony and Microsoft seem too be having to see who can fit the most buttons and joypads on their controllers, and Sonys' motion thing on theirs? wtf is that supposed to do? My mate got condemned for the PS3 and it took me 20 minutes to suss the controls, any Wii game I can pick up a pad and play straight away without having to go through a tutorial session that should come with an NVQ certificate at the end of it.
BBCi player on the Wii too.
i have nintendo wii, and im glad. i coulndt go to a bowling place, so, thanx to wii, i can play bowling on my own house. i think that is better nintendo wii because this nintendo is like other nintendos, you press buttons, but the diference is that you can move and exercise without paying a thing. I think you just made that up from your oppinion, mean, i think you didin't even investigate about wii! all you say is so false! and dont compare wii from all thies stupid games! wii is unique. in the whole history if nintendos, i think this is the best nintendo ever, in makes your brain think (by moving because if you move, the blood of the body goes faster and thats good because it it makes you analize things better), it helps you exercise if you dont have the recuirement with you, and it makes you be better on many other things!!!
even my mom likes it! she loves playing mario karts ( she never had the chanse to ride a car). and the better thing, you can become more social! because you can invite friends to play or on a bithday there could be challenges and then it wouldnt be usefull to contract a stupid clown or people like that.
the mario kart weel is not a joke. it makes the game be funner and much more real.
so my conclution:
nintendo wii is the best nintendo ever.
Dude, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers have amazing graphics in comparison to GameCube. I think one thing that isn't acknowledged enough is that looking real does not equate to good graphics and you don't need incredible amounts of power to create good graphics. In my opinion, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker had some of the best, if not, the best graphics of the past console war. Okami was also amazing on the PS2, and about the same on the Wii. In fact, Okami on the Wii is very competitive with Resistance 1 and a bunch of other games on the 360 and PS3. Now, I'm not glorifying it as much as you'd think. I mean, the graphics in Gears 1 & 2, Bioshock, and LittleBigPlanet are indeed superior to Okami.
Also, your point on hardware is somewhat flawed. Yes, you will need to buy your SD cards, but only for your Shop channel stuff. If you never use the Wii Shop Channel, a good percent of the population uses dial-up still, then the space in there is sufficient.
I also disagree with your thoughts on Mario Kart and the Wii Wheel, the controls are VERY clean and easy.
hi i want to buy wii sports for the wii games
Im glad to hear that you didnt take offence to my comment.
and I agree with you that all three have issues. I've heard that Microsoft and sony are not going to release a new console on a 5 year cycle anymore, and I've heard nothing about this from nintendo, but Im not sure if that was just a rumor.
to me gaming just hasnt been the same since Microsoft developed a console and sega left the hardware business... I'll admit I have a lot of biases against modern gaming and types of games (such as an overabundance of FPS and sports games)
however I tried to keep that out of my initial comment, although there are a few parts where you can see it seep through.
I still have some hope for console gaming, and even PC gaming, although the PC scene is moving slower then ever before, losing PC titles (like GTA) to consoles... I guess that IS where the money is these days, and thats precisely the problem with gaming...
theres more money made in games casual gamers would enjoy than those of us who remain hardcore...
I'd like to say I strongly disagree with you...
your entire focus seems to be on the power of other consoles vs. the wii. let me put it this way, back in the day, programmers needed real skill at optimizing code to get great looking games, these days, hardware manufacturers baby developers by giving them more power then they really NEED to get the job done.
look at the developers of the original DOOM (John and Adrian Carmack) both of them were excellent coders, esp. adrian. they made extreme efforts to copy the side scrolling used in mario bros. 3 in a demo, because in their day PCs weren't considered powerful enough for it.
that might not seem relevent, but the fact is that it was possible. I want you to take a good look at games like metroid prime 3 and super smash bros brawl. They do take advantage of the wii's strength over the gamecube, and graphically, they are pleasing as well. the developers dont NEED all the power otehr consoles are given, and by stripping it down to functionality that is actually necessary, they can cut consumer prices down.
comparing the wiimote to the super scope and NES blaster?!?!!? thats ludicris, the technology is entirely different. Those older peripherals worked on much simpler terms. all the NES light blaster did was search for a white spot on the screen in front of it. Dont believe me? check out an old copy of duck hunt -- when you fire the screen goes black, except for where the duck was, that spot stays white. And because it does, the gun detects light in the direction it was pointed and says if it was hit or not.
the wiimote is more complex by far, and more useful. and the way the console is designed, you can use gamecube and classic controllers where they're function would be more useful -- EVEN IN SOME WII ONLY GAMES. thats right, developers aren't restricted to one type of control, as we see in brawl.
now the most important thing for any console is games. And quite honestly, the PS3 dosent really compete much here. As much power as it's packed with, all the games I've seen for it suck. The Xbox 360 may have a s***-ton of games for it, but thats only for one reason -- it was the earliest next gen console to come out, so more developers already had the tools to develop for it, and had already begun projects by the time PS3 and wii came out...
thats not to mention the fact that most of the 360 games worth playing are actually PC ports that work better on PC, and a ton of games released for it are just "industrial" style games that are cranked out like no tommorrow and offer little-no innovation and follow overly rehashed storylines. Nintendo's own series are mostly great games, and a lot of 3rd party stuff is OK too, although a lot of great 3rd party developers (Sega, for one) IMO have gone down the drain with recent changes in structure... but thats a problem thats all too real for any of the 3 console manufacturers these days...
Maybe Im living in the digital dust here, I dont know. But as I see it, Nintendo has been taking steps back in innovation -- away from all the crap that gaming has become today. Gaming is no longer an artform to most producers as it once was, no longer something to innovate and play around with. Most developers know that an OMGDZ SHOOTZ IT game will sell to the masses and make more profit than games like Final Fantasy 3 (or 6) or Mischeif Makers, or Donkey kong will. Great companies like Black Isle studios (original producers of fall out) and many many others have all but shut down.
sure, maybe the majority are enjoying such thing, but what about the rich history of gaming? Look back to the golden era of gaming (snes to early PSX) and look at all the wonderful and strange creations were produced -- from odd rpgs to games like crash bandicoot things people had never seen or experienced before were popping up all the time.
the way I see it, Nintendo has been moving back towards those days, and its a good thing. Look at some of their games, twilight princess for example has moved back to a more classic styled zelda world -- no more ocarina or mask, good old blue/red potions are back, and there are tons of things they brought back from zelda in '85. Look at all the innovative and creative games -- warioware, animal crossing and so many more. look at how they're taking old favorites and keeping them fresh where they need to be and stale in ways that made them fun...
The way your looking at things any console that came out first would have won it in your book. There'd be more games and developers working for it, and more of a machine behind getting stuff on the shelves. or maybe its power that drives your decision? if so the PS3 would be the clear winner hands down.
your missing something here -- its quality. why do you think nintendo is selling so many consoles eh? They're not advertising as much as the 360 has, and advertisements for 360 specific games are more common then wii ones.
people aren't after the strongest console... if they were sega would still be in the hardware business, the dreamcast (as well as the saturn) were WAYYY ahread of they're time, and in the last gen, I constantly had to look twice to see that it's games werent current gen graphics and content wise...
also one last fact you have to get clear... THE GAMECUBE WAS FAR MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PS2, YOU HAVE YOUR FACTS WRONG IT WAS NOT UNDERPOWERED AT ALL.
but dont feel bad, your not the only one to make that mistake, everyone looked at the GC as weak, but in reality the PS2 was much weaker, and sure the XBOX was more powerful, but it was really a weak x86 PC in guise as a game console. Really it was the first to explore a more common pc architecture for a game console... for example gameboys used a z80 processor, gba used an arm chip, Dreamcast (from which MS might have gotten design ideas from) used a similar idea with a less common architecture, RISC.
So get your facts on straight, get a better less-biased view of the war before jumping to a side, and learn a little about gaming history while your at it. I've been a gamer since the NES, and I've owned almost every console EVER up to this gen. even the lesser known ones. I could go on about obscure games and consoles, and even old PCs (back when PC meant personal computer and wasnt bad slang for intel/amd x86 and x64) I could tell you about games like wasteland (the unnofficial prequel to fallout) and comic bakery, as well as many more gems forgotton over the ages.
perhaps a look at the past might show you that taking a few steps back in modern gaming "innovation" is actually taking a lot of steps forward after stumbling backwards in the dark.
although like I said, perhaps Im living in the digital dust of a world thats been long gone since the late 90's...
but whatever, thats just my 2-cents on your article. Try not to take anything personal, Im not trying to attack you or your beliefs.

I do have an Xbox 360, and enjoy using it, but on the whole, I prefer the Wii. Maybe it's just because I'm the kind of guy who looks upon Call of Duty and sees the most dull, boring and uncreative game in the known universe, but I think that anyone who can't see any appeal in this fun and quirky console has had their soul sucked out of them at some point. Possibly by a ten-foot interdimentional beaver with a monocle
